Sports and Recreational Facilities
What goes from 0-60,000 people in 30 minutes or less. One of the 16 NFL
stadiums every Sunday in the fall. The rest of the year these facilities are
lucky to have 100 people in the adjoining offices, weight rooms and meeting areas.
Then, just for fun, add a 40,000 seat baseball or 16,000 seat indoor arena next
door, like many multi-sport cities have done.
These systems are so diverse
in loading that no one simple HVAC system can meet these needs. Techniques such
as chilled water storage or shared central systems are often employed to handle
these wide load differences. The pumping system must be able to integrate and
react quickly to changing HVAC needs to keep all of the clients happy.
Systecon has provided many such systems for professional and college athletic
facilities nationwide.
Spotlight Job
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was looking forward to the arrival of two new sports stadiums for their baseball and football teams. With heating and cooling a must for offices, club seats, etc. , Systecon stepped to the plate. A major premise behind this project was extreme adaptibility. Realizing that load patterns could shift dramatically within hours, Systecon, along with consulting engineers, designed a VariPrime™ chilled and hot water package. The central plant was designed to work as a shared central system between both stadiums. This central plant was equipped with a Johnson interface with about 1,000 points. A phone modem connection was used for startup and commisioning.
Systecon stadium pump packages are very adaptable, keeping all clients happy.
