Hospital

Many hospitals have been built, modified and added on to over many decades. The original areas may not even have had air conditioning, or at best old pneumatic control systems that no longer work. Many engineers are challenged with trying to upgrade, restore or add on to these diverse systems.

A Systecon variable primary conversion helps these systems. By utilizing high-speed industrial controls, Systecon can continuously look at the chilled/hot water systems and determine the proper flow rate to fully load the chillers and boilers. With complete integration to the chillers, boilers and building management system, Systecon can deliver the proper supply water temperatures under all loading conditions, including simultaneous heating and cooling.

Orlando Regional Medical Center of Orlando, Florida is an example of a progression in thought and design. Looking to improve on an existing primary/secondary system, Systecon designed a VariPrime™ system to be attached to a couple chiller plants. Because a VariPrime™ system can monitor and determine proper flow rates through the chiller, it will be more efficient than the primary/secondary system. It is important to note that there are currently three of six chillers on site. The VariPrime™ system is designed to handle the current base load, while the primary/secondary system supplements it. The plan is to have the VariPrime™ system take 100% of the duties in the future when the remaining three chillers are brought on site.

It is also important to note that there are indeed two seperate chiller plants involved that must be sequenced together. In order to get a fast and clean signal, Systecon utilized fiber optics for performance communications.
